Best estate car for under £2000

Having downsized once from an 57plate Smax to an 02plate Espace we find ourselves having to slim down some more, the Chimaera stays!!! so we have been looking at estates as they are most usefull. Any thoughts...ps if you want to give me some money all would be gratefully accepted lol!

Volvo V70 you'll get a <2000 model for a grand the Classic spec ones are really nice & they pretty much dont go wrong. Bought one for wifey not long ago having had one for many years before, forgotten how nice they were.

The W124 is an old Mercedes E Class from the hewn from granit era when they still built cars properly, they're great old smokers. Avoid the next generation E Class like the plague at that price though, it'll turn to cornflakes.

Get the older 240 series volvo in really good nick. The antique dealers favourite. You can't get 1/2 the stuff in a later model. I drove an old G reg to Greece without even a murmer.
Drove a W123 series merc to Turkey, no problem at all. cooked the brake fluid in the Greek mountains and had to let it cool but other than that was superb.

Ive had lots of T5 850s and V70s, then recently I picked up a lovely TDi Auto, fully loaded, 1998, it goes really well for a oil burner and can be chipped up to around 177 bhp (Its 140 at the min) and for such a big car it is amazing on economy, easily getting 40+mpg maybe more on the motorway, one of the most practical cars Ive owned of late, I cant fault it apart from the colour (metalic Turquoise) but its growing on me, I gave 700 notes for it which was a steal, but you can still get a decent one for under a grand and if petrol it will be a lot less although petrol ones are very thirsty!

Another cheapie below, these are proper quality motors and will go to the moon and back without breaking a sweat as long as you dont mind a Volvo

I'll also fly the flag for the V70's. Recently bought a 2000 (T) 2.5TDi estate with a years tax and ticket for a little over a grand. Ok, so not the prettiest thing in the world but in the past month it's done 2000 miles and is returning 45mpg and to date has cost me £100 for a full service kit, rear brake pads retaining springs and an inner steering arm. Pennies to run and to insure and despite the image it carries, it does actually drive well and can hustle along when the need arises. That and the fact an excitable 4yr old and 7yr old have yet to succeed in breaking anything on it yet...

I did set out to buy a T5 however the circa 25mpg put me off slightly. Been there, done that.
