Just bought one of these, 2001 plate, 139,000 miles with full volvo history and a £2500 replacement gearbox 9k miles ago, not picked the car up yet and it's my first auto so my question is how bummed is my wallet going to get at the pump, and as I haggled the price down to £1300 and my journey to work is only 12 miles return trip have I bought correctly going with a petrol.
anyone else on here got one and care to share if it's been a good car.

We've got an 01 2.4 like yours
MPG won't be bad so long as you don't rag it. Around town and if you are booting it we get mid 20s. On a run and if we are careful then it goes into low 30s.
Our average is about 29. But we use ours as the family hack with kids, dog, roof box plus trips to Wickes with all the seats down carting heavy stuff.
Generally they are great cars, super comfortable seats with great stereo and the like. Do make sure it is serviced properly though and don't skimp on oil and serviceables.
I bought ours as a run about as a dealer to clear car for 2.5k 2 years ago. I've had is serviced at the main dealer and not skimped on anything - now with over 100k on it's still going strong and will do for many years. I budget on about 1k of consumables and service per annum on it, which if you consider that there is no depreciation it's pretty cheap, reliable, safe and surprisingly quick motoring.
I see you've got a new box - this is one of the issues on these cars - but DO change the oil in it every 30k or so - the sealed for life but is crap. Google "V70 Gibbons method" on this - it's a simple DIY and will make the box last a lot longer. The other issue is ETM, check the colour of the sticker on the throttle module attached to the intake - can't remember which way round it is but one colour show's its the new style which is more reliable (again google is your friend). There are a few other things that will go on it, like a MAF and an 02 sensor, but on that age and mileage those are, I think, acceptable on any car.

We currently have an RS4, a VW Passat Bluemotion Estate and a V70 T5 CD Estate with 158000 miles on the clock.
The Volvo is nearly every time my preferred option to drive to most places. Comfy, good stereo, and you don't care where you park it! We get 23mpg round town and 30 on a run (manual)

Cheers Guys and j-skid, brilliant info and the reason I posted on here, there's always someone that's got or had one, it was a Volvo dealer car originally with 2 owners on the log book, few scuffs and 1 or 2 minor trolly ding's but looks like it's not been skimped on, full volvo history and all the reciepts for cambelt new gearbox etc, I usually do my own servicing with oil and filters every 3k or so, and will definately be looking at the gearbox oil change method, took the car on a test drive earlier and loved the way it went and how smoothly it picked up.
I've gone Fiat Coupe 20v Turbo to an MG ZS Diesel and it's so nice to go back to a 5 cyl petrol.
