New discs with old pads?

Hi all, I recently changed the pads on my E39, the discs were reasonably worn but they seemed to have life left.

Unfortunately after the pad change it became obvious that there is now a wobble when braking, I've ordered some new discs to hopefully clear this (old ones are fairly worn anyway so not a bad idea).

Will the pads still be ok with new discs? They've not had massively heavy use, about 700 miles, lots of which was motorway. I figure if they have taken on a bit of wear in the pattern of the old discs they should soon wear back to the new discs and they have lots of meat left (obviously!)

For the price of pads just change the lot. What e39 is it?

I'd always put new pads on with new discs.

It's just having forked out for new pads less than a month ago, I don't fancy scrapping brand new pads unless it's widely considered that there is a sound technical reason for doing so.

For the cost of the pads I could have my egg shaped M-Parallel alloy fixed

Which, with respect, begs the question why the discs weren't dhanged a month ago as well.

Why do the discs need changing? If they're rusting in from the edges they'll have eaten a "step" into the pads so you will need new pads if you're looking for decent brake performance.

If they are only 700 miles old then I'd have no problem using them on the new discs.

New pads take time to bed in anyway, these shouldn't take much longer as 700 miles shouldn't have changed them that much. (Obviously just check for edge damage when you take them out)

The mechanic that fitted them said that visually they looked fine, although they were getting thin. He said they didn't need it, unfortunately what only became apparent afterwards was the wobble that wasn't really noticeable prior to the new pads.

Get some course rubbing down paper, 100grit or less and clean them up (remove whatever glaze if any is on them) they should be fine then go through the normal bedding in process.
