Has this had a front end smash?

Hi all - just bought a SEAT approved used car from a dealer 240 miles away. It is an EXEO ST and was part of the manufacturer backed approved used scheme.

Have just had a good look under the bonnet and under the car and have noticed some rather unsightly welds and a cracked undertray. Has this been involved in a front end smash do you think guys?

The undertary has probably been snagged up on something, or hit by something on the road

As for poor welds, all I can see is factory seam sealer - Also, if had been welded up that far back in the bay, they wouldn't have repaired it

Strange - the pics are hosted at webshots.com - they seem to work for some people and not others

Can't see the pics but are you confusing seam sealer with welds? If you want to be sure, check shut lines, paint, manufacturing dates on headlights, etc.

All looks fine apart from the undertray that looks damaged though not a big issue if it isn't making any noise or coming off. I would send them a photo and get them to replace the undertray if it was me and I had just bought it. Might claim it wasn't there when they had it up on their ramps though.

That just looks like factory seam sealer. Tap up the dealer for an undertray though.

Looks like someone's been playing dukes of hazzard over speed bumps or humpback bridges. All the welding and sealant looks factory, but I'd insist on a full geometry check as it looks like it's had a fair impact.

Looks like there are scuffs on the undertray too. Driven over something too high or too fast, I would say. I once saw a pensioner beach his car on a kerb in a car park, I'd be guessing something like that.

Don't worry about the undertray. On my 147 GTA there were almost a cosnumable, to be replaced at every service

Keep your eye on ebay, I wouldn't bother replacing it if it holds on ok. Just use a few bolts and bits of metal to sort it. Mine on my vw got smashed on a speedbump.

I daren't look at my undertray, it'd be a state due to the '5 being too low
