They make too many carbons. Turbo V6s will probably replace V8s soon enough though.

Turbo 4's can put out similar power. And they work better on EC CO2 tests...

And over the lifetime of the vehicle, the manufacturer will make more in spares/repairs.

We do. Just not for the UK/EU as we are all idiots here and think number of cylinders and displacement fully dictate:

a) how fast a car is
b) how much fuel it uses
c) how much to tax it by

Because they are harsh and unrefined, and a straight six and a v8 are both betterer? wink

Nissan GTR has V6. Seems to manage quite well with one.

Emissions. Unfortunately. That's what did for the R32 in the Golf and why it has now been replaced with a 2.0T frown

Presumably weight and tunability also account for a lot. They can make the same block be 200BHP or 260BHP with changes such as intercoolers / turbo's / remapping.. bit more effort to extract 60BHP out of a small N/A engine!

This!

Although I love my current V6TT but a colleague has a SS Supra turbo and I think it sounds better and my 24v Senators were as smooth as silk in comparison.

V8s are rough too without their harmonic dampers but if you don't like a V8 you can't be a petrolhead right kids?!?!?

They seem to like them in the US. The Cadillac CTS, the Camaro, the Mustang, the Challenger all have 300hp-ish V6s as the base model.
Over here, it's all CO2 and turbos.

confused
My old Ford Probe was so smooth I often had to check the rev counter to make sure it hadn't stalled. Sitting idling on the drive all you could hear was a slight whirring/hum from the engine area.
My old Mazda Xedos with a slightly smaller 2.0 variant of the same engine was the same.

Have to say i really enjoyed my V6's must get another one day;

mazda 2.0 v6 24v - a superb revvy responsive engine with a lovely sound-track that would do nearly 40 mpg at steady 80 lptns. Took that from 100k to 130k miles with no issues.

vw 4motion 2.8 v6 - again, lovely responsive engine, bit thirsty and not much in the way of soundtrack but silky smooth.

350Z - lovely engine shoved in an average car what a waste.

Alfa 3.0 V6 - such a lovely sound, so responsive, wasnt very good on fuel and wasnt very fast.

BMW - only kidding no v6's from Bavaria.

Mondeo V6 24v - just an estate car but that engine made the car come alive, loads of power, even managed 22 mpg towing the racing car.

Audi Allroad - is that a v6 tdi? cant remember, it was robust but sounded like a small lorry. As did the Touareg 2.5 V6 tdi, which was even slower and struggled to get more than 27 mpg on cruise on the motorway.

Omega V6 - Oh I forgot I do have a V6 after all!
But it drinks petrol like its going out of fashion, a cambelt change costs more than the car is worth but I dont care because with 200 bhp its far faster than most other tow cars, I never slow down on hills (but I do spend a lot of time visiting petrol stations). Maybe thats why?
