What exactly do you do with a Veyron or an F1?

Obviously a bit of a hypothetical question

But what do you do with a Veyron or a McLaren F1??

If I was loaded, which Im not, I would keep a lowish profile house wise but my car fetish would give me away as a potential kidnap target LOL

So if you have an ostentatious hyper car what do you do with it?
UK roads are heavily policed so besides cruising Knighstbridge your options are limited

Which leaves mainland Europe
However is it really safe to rock up in a provincial European town in a Bugatti as part of a road trip and expect:
a) your Veyron will be there in the morning
b) the local Mafia wont kidnap you

Or when you buy such a car is it assumed that you have enough cash for a atring of European safe houses with underground parking???

I would love to ask this question for real but in the meantime Im curious

To be honest anything as quick as even a base spec 911 is way too fast for the speed limits we have now. The enjoyment comes from the handling, sound, feedback and experience of driving it, and moments where you can feel the acceleration. The higher speed reaches of something like a Macca F1 are reserved for track days and autobahns. I'd have one if I could afford it

Veyron? Couldnt be arsed with it as it doesnt do anthing for me.

The F1? That i could live with quite easily & use it as often as i could.

Mr Flemke uses his all the time - or at least he did until his minor contretemps last year. However no doubt that as soon as he gets the F1 back he will use it regularly & i for one cant wait!!

Any supercar can be used regularly if the owner so wishes. Just ask Nick Mason. His GTO is probably the most used mega car in the world. Does he care? No so long as the car is enjoyed, not thrashed & returned in one piece.

Drive it on the continent and the isle of man. Don't drive it in England, unless you fancy getting banned every time you touch the gas pedal.

I really don't think a McLaren F1 is ostentatious? To me if I saw a guy in an F1 I would immediately think "petrolhead" ( and a nice investment!! )
Veyron, well, I would think "rich " but 50/50 petrolhead and flash playboy, but maybe not ostentatious. I think ostentatious when I see schoolrun mums in SL63 AMG's who have never used more than 1/2" of pedal travel...

In fact, if the F1 was ostentatious then I think we would have seen David Beckham in one, along with every other Range Rover, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Escalade, Mercedes owning premiership player in one, and thank god we havent!!! Let's face it, those "petrolhead" players could EASILY afford one on £100,000 per week , let's salute the non-ostentatious F1!!

There is one McLaren owner, Tony Smith, who uses (used?) his F1 like a daily driver (I know his son, Chris Smith). I think he had the highestest mileage F1 in the world at one point? Tony is a handy wheelman, he races historics including F1's. Oh, and he also happens to be the manager of Genesis so that might help....;)

Years ago Dr.Thomas Bscher (gentleman racer and then some) was famous for using his F1 as a daily driver, and once contacting McLaren complaining it had a small misfire, at 197mph, on the way to work.

I agree - Scotland have the most sensible road coppers in Britain. You can spot the scam vans with ease and your average road traffic cop appears reasonable. I've had a few run ins over the years and they've given me a polite warning and sent me on my way.

One copper said to me that he wasn't giving me a ticket as I wasn't endangering anyone but he couldn't ignore me doing well in excess of the NSL.

Scotland has some fantastic roads and I certainly make the most of them when I'm up there.

Easier in lowly populated areas with fewer police... just do a sighting run first... also lets you check for any damp/diesel, etc... not risk free but hey...

I heard about this one - the factory checked over the car's data feed and discovered that it had been hitting 200mph, every single day of the week! This is what I'd want to do with an F1

Your point is well made - there's no point buying a dream car which doesn't fit your real-world lifestyle. Otherwise a supercar will turn out to be nothing but an enormous sense of frustration. Hence many of them clock up so few miles each year. I've never got my kicks out of "polishing", I'd rather be out "driving"!

I live in the north of Scotland where some of the best driving roads are located and in the middle of nowhere they will sit with their radar guns and take great pleasure in handing out tickets!

And if you are caught doing over 100mph get used to walking for a year because you will be charged with dangerous driving !

That particular law isn't different in Scotland is it?

I'd have thought >100mph (say, 110) would be a short ban, like a month or less.
