Audi A2 - Talk to me.

The OH has her heart set on an A2. They're not really my bag but hey it could be worse (she could want a Beetle!).

Anyway - any experiances of these cars, things to look out for and how do they handle high milages? The majority I've seen for our budget (£3-4k) are pretty high 80-90-100k + milage. I gather that they're not the sort of car to have been ragged to death but any 1st/2nd hand knowledge of ownership would be handy.

Do a search for the A2 forum - great place to have a gander.

Being aluminium then be wary of accident repairs - make sure they are documented so you can see what is done. Also if a towbar is fitted then check for corrosion around mounting points as different metals react with the aluminium.

I think Fifth Gear tv show next week have a piece about the A2 as a used car.

There is one variant that is meant to be super frugal, and still nice to drive. A 1 .4 diesel iirc.

i've just bought one for myself!! not much choice around tbh, diesels best - easy to chip eg 1.4tdi 75 to around 100-110 with no loss of economy......very little to look out for, seem to be very reliable and well built www.a2oc.net for all th info you could need.apart from making sure the climate control works ok, and if fitted the open sky works (vv expensive to fix although if the cars under 10y.o. and has audi fsh they'll repair it foc) just the usual things on any diesel

My dad had one a few years ago as a company car. it was the diesel and had covered 140,000 miles by the time he gave it back. in all that time he did not treat it well, he had it serviced twice and nearly ran it dry off oil !!! The car never missed a beat, was comfortable and fun, very practical too. I seemed to remember it had odd sized tyres which were expensive, I could be wrong though.

It is a very good car, My friend had one with a massive stereo fitted. Good on fuel but tricky to do work on. Really nice cars, last audi bar the R8 that I really like.

Same here, the A2 is a bit of a leftfield car. Would be interest what Plato et al say about it.

Yeah, think Johnny (silly beard) Smith is doing a piece on older fuel saving cars and the A2 is one of them. Looking forward to seeing it although can't see when it's going to be on the tellybox.

I think its the next show as my friend at work mentioned the Insight was at the end for the next show... I think thats on Friday 8th as the cricket wipes it off next Friday schedule. Someone on the Insight forum was approached about the same feature as its also covering a mk1 Insight and Smart Roadster.

Usually on Fridays at 7.30 but not this week. Five keep missing a week or so every so often.
