No insurance/MOT/VED question

In the next couple of weeks I need to get a car that is currently SORN'd and uninsured/MOT'd/taxed out of storage and back on the road. Am I right in thinking that the correct order of things is if I renew the insurance, I can then drive it to the MOT station, and once I have that sort out the tax disc?

Erm... it still has to be roadworthy (within reason) I think for tyres, lights, etc

i.e. if if had bits hanging off it and it was in a low state of repair, the Police might expect you to trailer it to the MOT station.

I'm not 100% sure as to what the guidance is though....

Yes, provided the MOT is pre-booked (not just a "yeah, bring it down any time mate", but they have your details and those of the car) you can drive to and from it with no tax or MOT.

It has to be completely roadworthy to be on the road, regardless of it's MOT status.
