Hi all,

I currently own this

Full history, I am the second owner, 111,000 on the clock, everything works as it should and is tidy.

I like my old school Cosworths but also love my M3's as well.

Would I be mad to PX my M3 plus some cash for this?

Car has a genuine 67k on the clock and no welding at all...

I love that engine and owned a Escort RS Cosworth which I would have again if I could justify that much money sat in the garage.

What do we all think? It is not my first choice colour and I would have to put leather in it. The M3 is near on the right spec you would want for road use.

Just looking for some genuine Petrol head opinions really?

Thanks in advance

Mark

I would keep the M3 personally. How much would the Cossie cost out of interest?

Hmmm, if it was a standard Cossie then that's not a bad deal. Those alloys are horrible.

It depends what your after really.I think i would keep hold of the M3 esp with summer (hopefully) here soon or maybe youve had it a while and fancy a change?

You need to be aware buying an old saphire cozzie,i owned one for a good few years and by the time it hit 70k ish miles it started needing an awfull lot of work. It ended up with a full top and bottom engine rebuild, new turbo, all suspension bushes replaced, new shocks/springs and a bit later on a new gearbox and that was all ten years ago! Time will also take its toll on bushes, seals, gaskets etc.

I also had an escort coz and the saphs are nowhere near as well built, engine included.

Im sure you know what your looking at though and if the car is good then why not.I would reccomend a stage 1 tune though to bring it to life although this will probably blow the head gasket if it hasnt already been done.

Great cars though,i actually prefered it to the escort.

What's the spec on the Sapphire? You'll need 270-280 bhp to match the EVO on performance as you're probably aware. Different sort of cars though really - most people will prefer the convertible for summer. Only you really know what you want.......

Sierra spec is pretty good, stage 3 power around 320bhp, T34 turbo, greens, 500 intercool and uprated rad, Gaz coilovers with most bushes changed, gear and engine both been rebuilt, engine has internals for some bigger power if needed, never been welded, no rust and low miles.

On paper the Sierra is a good car but little things like going back to a old Ford from the E36 which has a really good chassie.

Then i guess everyone will want to steal it like with the Escort

hummmm... If it was black, then it would be a no brainer, it would be on my drive.

Lol, chav? I would agree if they was coated in RIP speed add ons but both cars in standard form are or will be collectors cars that have a massive following, OK neither are 911's or supercars but both are well respected road cars with at there times supercar performance.

Each to there own I guess though.

Black 2wd'ers are fairly rare ....... Crystal Blue aren't exactly common now though.

The Sapphire is an older chassis for sure, more like an E30 M3/944 T but if you want to improve it it's well documented.

Why are they chav cars? Would you call them chav cars when they were new? No chav i have ever seen would be driving around in a £40k+ BMW or a high performance ford which unless you were pretty wealthy would not be able to insure let alone buy.
Just because they are now cheap to buy they are still proper performance/enthusiasts cars. A chav car is a saxo or a corsa with a 'Bad Boy' sticker on the back.

I've never driven an E36 that I liked (never driven an M3 though), and I've driven a Sapphire 3.0 and enjoyed it immensely, even though the brakes were awful, but I've never driven a cossie.

Despite that, on the strength of those photos and the description of the work done to the Cossie, I'd be inclined to keep the M3. A 2wd Sapphire is going to be a seriously old car by now, and I'd worry that it's just going to feel too tired. That's a fairly big mileage for a high performance car from that era.

why scream chav.

I don't think I have seen a chav driven cosworth for a while, that time has passed, and the bmw's can end up in the wrong hand but they are easily identified by the st bodykits., but considering this is a car enthusiasts website I think your comments are morose.

get the cossie..

Standard 2wd Cosworth brakes are excellent as standard - 4-pot calipers and were commented on very positively by the press reviews - will handle quite a bit extra power and plenty of AP upgrades available cheaply on the net if you want to upgrade.

It's true though - you'll need to be an enthusiast to maintain either of those old cars now....... And pick your engine man carefully for the YB. Awesomely strong engines if built properly and looked after though

67k is low compared to nearly everything else on sale.
It has also had a engine rebuild with warrenty so not worried about that at all, these engines hold stage 3 tune all day long if the head gasket has been uprated which it has in this car.

I am more worried about blowing the M3 than the Cosworth as M3's are known for spinning shells and to get the best from them, have to be driven hard.

Does anyone thing changing the wheels to 8 spoke mo's and making them a dark grey would tone the colour down a little?

Still laughing at the chav statement.
