IIRC, the PH thread was some horribly inaccurate poorly created spreadsheet with data that stopped at around 2010.

That's how it started, then later on in the thread some very clever guy tidied up the data and stuck it on an easy to use website. Then it ended up on Top Gear.

I'm the chap that wrote the site. It's based on the best information you can currently get out of the DVLA. It's come from a database that covers tens of millions of vehicles, and being mostly filled out by human operators (going back to the days of paper-only records), there's obviously some error margins to work with. For most modern stuff, it's pretty good. For niche supercars/kits/classic/imports, your mileage may vary..
