Vehicle inspection question/advice

Hi

I think I've found the car I'm after, a mk1 Leon Cupra R. It's had a lot of work carried out in the last year (new clutch, gearbox etc) but has done over 100k miles. As I'm not the most mechanically minded, I want to get a vehicle check for added reassurance.

With a bit of googling of the usual suspects, AA and RAC, I came across these guys - mycarinspections.co.uk. Has anybody got any experience of them? There's not much online. Also, anybody recommend another option at all in south London? The big name independents look too far to go.

Iv'e just had a quick look at that site and on the face of it, it seems like a good idea however:

Put yourself in the sellers shoes would you let somebody go in to that much detail on the car (im thinking if the buy walks away and you notice somekind of problem on back of the 'engineer' mooching about the car)

I've told the seller that I'd want the check doing and he's happy with that. Seems like the same checks a dealer would do and just want to protect myself from something costly happening after purchasing.

Seller has been really honest and open (which I think goes a long way when you're buying a car) but still like to have that added reassurance.

If he is happy with it then great sounds like a good idea especially if your spending a fair bit on the car.

Keep us posted on how the inspection goes.

If it does have any faults does the 'engineer' quote you to have them reparied on the basis you buy or is it simply an inspection only service?

Just be advised though that a car of that age/mileage will have age related wear and tear. The inspection is bound to find faults, mainly because they don't want to leave themselves open to come backs if something goes wrong later. Just be open minded when you get the report. Also if the clutch/gearbox has been done check that they changed the slave cylinder which is a weak spot on them and although only a £40 part the box has to come out to change it.

I'm open to the report finding a few things to cover themselves. It's more in case something major is found.

t955daytona - sound like you've had experience with these cars. I'll check on what was changed but he had the gearbox and clutch done at the same time about 2 months back and comes with a 12 month waranty on that work. Think he's had a couple of issues with temperature sensors as well. Just been serviced and MOT'd as well and had all the advisary things done on that which were mechanical. At £3800, seems a decent price?

In case anyone else is after the same thing in the future, I eventually went with a company called Dekra - https://www.dekra-expert.co.uk. They actualy do the AA checks but work out cheaper. In the end, for £109 they did a full mechanical inspection and data check.

Happy with the service so far. The seller said they were very thorough with the check and the engineer that carried it out called in the evening to go though the report and what he found. Only problem encountered with the service is his internet is down and therefore I need to wait to get the report. He did go through thoroughly though.
