Driving home from work this evening.. The amount of abuse my wheel arches were getting from stones was unbelievable. I thought I must have had something wrapped around a wheel and was hitting each time it went round, I even stopped off a slip lane and checked..
Are our roads not up to this kind of weather? And does it happen in places where its constantly this hot.. UAE etc?

Is it to do with sticky tyres? Or any tyres do it?
The road looked like the end of an F1 race with all the marbles around the edge. Terrible!
It's to do with the melting point of the tar. I've heard said some used in the UK will go soft at 24 degree C.The road looked like the end of an F1 race with all the marbles around the edge. Terrible!
Other places in World have far higher temps though, so they must use different grade materials. Death Valley for instance, regularly 40-42 degree's C.
Yup. The hotter the temperature, the smaller the grit and the less tar is needed, making the road less likely to melt badly when it gets hot. However the problem with that is that the road is very prone to cracking when water gets into the tarmac and freezes.
In cold climates more tar and bigger grit creates a frost resistant road, but it means that it's rougher and melts in the sun.

Never had any problems in the UAE. But then, when it got cold and rained it was mighty scary.
Jesus....not wrong! Factor rain into the equation which already has a very low standard of driving and a lot of big, powerful cars and it is a recipe for absolute comedy.
Rain arrives.....keep clear of the roads in the UAE!!
