Bug bear of the moment….Lane Discipline. It’s shocking. Not even that bothered about the middle-lane huggers. They are cock-mittens that deserve metaphorically shooting in the face, twice, but it is more the drivers that at 6am, on an arterial dual (or 3-lane) carriageway, usually near deserted, sit in the outside lane doing 10-20mph less than the speed limit because they are turning right……in about a mile.
No right turn indicator, no semblance of road sense, just sitting in the right hand lane, dawdling, ready to turn right and hour or two later.
These same thunderc*nts will then refuse to move should they be flashed, then if you dare to undertake them will either wave furiously at you, flash their headlights at you, or worse still, suddenly discover their throttle and try and speed up to prevent you from undertaking (this practice is particularly used if there is another outer-lane-right-turning-cock-jockey ahead in sight)
Latest occurrence was this morning. Quiet three lane road, motorway slip road entering from left, car in middle lane, I went to overtake in lane three. Pale blue beetle convertible came down slip road 2-300yds ahead, veered across all three lane and sat in the outside lane at 25 mph (40 limit). Slow down, flash lights. Nothing. Follow for half a mile. Still sat there. Car in middle lane finally moves into lane 1, so I pull into middle lane and undertake, slowly. Alongside, the Beetle driver waves in a fashion I take to mean she assumes I self-abuse.
When she finally caught up, a further 500yds up the road, then in a right-turn filter-lane, indicating, I get a mouthful of abuse about reporting me to the police….??
Go figure.

I've been driving for 18 years and lane discipline has always been a problem. It will always be a problem because:
(a) new drivers aren't educated well enough about lane discipline
(b) most people are
s and don't care about anyone other than themselves
(c) one man's poor lane discipline is another mans overtake
There are two ways to deal with it. Relax and ignore them.Undertake Pass them on the inside at incredible speed. I do the latter.

Just move to the leftmost free lane and continue at your normal speed. No need for any shenanigans. Leave them be these days, thats all you can do.
+1.There's no point in a confrontation and I (and I imagine you too) are not the driving standards police. Just relax and let it all wash over you.

I'm a regular M62 user and whether I'm on the bike or in the car I avoid going in the "fast lane" like the plague - especially Westbound going home. You make so much better time and also avoid having to do a weapons grade brake test every half mile.
Favourite bit - westbound between "the little house on the prairie" ((C) Sally Traffic) and Saddleworth junction - sit in lane 1 at 56 mph and pass about 300 cars on the inside. It's mental.

I also drive the M62 quite often. Like you, I tend to just stick to the inside lane, pulling out to overtake the occasional truck then back in.
You tend to find that any cars you pass up the hill tend to re-pass you on the downhill stretch anyway, as if the throttle in their car only has one position which gives 55mph up the hill and 85mph down the other side.
I like the oxygen thieves who can't use lanes on roundabouts and go from left lane to right to left to take the shortest route across. Or even better when someone is on your right then decides they want to exit at the first exit or in the left hand lane on dual carriageways.

On the bike, I rarely use lane 3, just no point. Last Friday I stayed in lane 1 for over a mile undertaking the entire m'way. I was doing a steady 70 in an empty lane. Passed 1 marked patrol car, 1 unmarked patrol car and 2 police bikes all on the hard shoulder, none of whom had any interest. The unmarked one did kindly flash his oscillating lights as I was coming towards him, then gave me thumbs up as I passed him.
The other day I was cruising along as usual coming onto one of my Motorways, which was very busy with inferior cars.
First off, I couldn't believe that the volume of traffic DIDN'T slow down for me AT ALL as I came off the exit ramp! I had to squeeze into a barely big enough gap between two cars in order to get onto my motorway!
The driver of the car behind me did realise his mistake though and honked an apology to me with a long blast of his horn.
Unbelievably, I had to do the same again before I could get to the AUDI lane.
Anyway, once I was in the AUDI lane and posing along at 110 mph enjoying the adulation that the inferior car drivers were giving me, I noticed an inferior car ahead of me which was not only in the AUDI lane of my motorway, but was driving at a ridiculous 70 mph!
Naturally, I got within a foot or so of his rear bumper and flashed my headlights to remind him he shouldn't be in the AUDI lane of my motorway and to get out of my way.
Of course, once he realised it was a AUDI behind him, he did just that, but I could hardly believe it when he pulled straight back out behind me!
He also tried to keep up with me and when he realised I would out-run him, he put on some blue lights in his front grill and urged me to get onto the hard shoulder so that he could congratulate me on my excellent car.
Needless to say, I was eager to oblige and when we had stopped, the man gave me a piece of paper confirming what I already knew - that my car goes fast!
Apparently he wants everyone to know what a superior car I have, so I had to take my drivers licence to a police station to be sent away to have some points put on! (They're not free points either - they're £20 each and I was only allowed 3.) But the man at the police station said that because I drive an AUDI, it won't be much longer before I earn the full 12 points, and then I won't even NEED a driving licence, so they will take it off me!
See, now THAT'S the sort of respect you get when you own and drive an AUDI!
