Owning and driving a van for private use ?

Anyone here own a van but not in trade ?

A few of us are thinking of chipping in together to get a van as we have a lot of uses fishing / rc planes etc

Obvously buying isnt a problem but insurance might be as a lot is for trade use

Any help or advise would be great

A friend owns a Berlingo while doing up his house. Helps a lot with carting stuff around and with shooting/fishing trips. Plus he gets to dump stuff at the tip like you would if you have a car.

Insurance can be a headache for private use. If you're not hurling tools and rubble in it, consider things like the car version of the Berlingo - can take the seats out for carrying big stuff, no issues with insurance or different speed limits.

I own a '94 Ford Transit for personal use. Its main use is to trailer my rally car but also use it to help family and friends with moves, transporting my kayak to the lake and general runaround when I get fedup of driving the car.

No trouble ever insuring it and costs £300 a year for social and domestic use.

You could have had an accurate quote from an insurance website much quicker than waiting for half-answers on here.

Might be worth bearing in mind that a lot of council tips recycling centres (if not all) do not allow vans without a permit.

Yes wil be for fishing / shooting and rc gear

Insurance wise i couldnt see it on confused but will look again
