Importing vehicles from France easy?

Now that would make a great car to take to le mans!
Having it registered in the uk wouldn't be as easy as buying it though.
I know a French girl who brought her lhs pug with her to the uk and apparently having it registered was a right pita.
However many people do it so how hard can it be?
