Pirelli P6000's

I've always thought they were pretty good tyres. That said, I'll be going for Continental Contisport Contacts when I get my S60 re-shoed next month.
P6000's are working just fine on my commuter.I've got Contisports on the Mustang. They feel good. But my god they pick up bloody stones. The tread gaps are full with them always. Sometimes flinging out and rattling under the car when you drive, or bloody clicking away with each revolution of the wheel.
I had them on an Audi A4 and didn't think them to be awful. They were decent enough as opposed to astonishing and quite inexpensive.
I know that Volvo still push them through their dealer network. Also, Lotus approve them for use on early (upto 1987) Esprit models.
Like most things on the internet, a quirk can be blown out of all proportion.

Fair point about it all being blown out of all proportion, but I've found (twice) that in comparison with what's on sale, they really are that crap I know that Volvo still push them through their dealer network. Also, Lotus approve them for use on early (upto 1987) Esprit models.

I guess it stands to reason that these days there's better places to spend your money. They must have been out 12-15 years?
Without proper research I put four new ones on my Jag as they are factory specified.
Amazing lack of grip if it is at all slippery or there is loose dirt about - unexpectedly losing the back in such a big car is not much fun. The good news is they will last a long time I guess...
Also appear remarkably sensitive to pulling and tramlining if not inflated to match all round (this may be the car though I dunno, but even a couple of psi difference at the front is noticable).

I assume by quirk you are referring to the small point they last forever and provide a frictionless relationship with the road?Truly awful tyre, no feeling in the dry and little grip. No grip at all in the wet. Never mind a set of Nankangs I'd sooner have slicks coated in oil.
No I'm not a big fan......
I have them on my MX5 - because I picked up a spare set of track wheels complete with a new set for not a lot.
Summary - not as grippy as Toyo T1Rs, but not shocking.
I did have a few 'moments' on a damp / wet track and managed a spin at around 70mph.... but I think it's because the P6000 is designed to be used on something 50% heavier than an MX5.
The upside is that they do wear very well - 2 track days and 1k road miles since fitting and they still look pretty new!
I'll eventually change them for something with more grip and quicker wear - but I think I'll probably let these see out the track day 'season' this year.

They were the factory fit tyre for years, now (and for the last few years) most of the range come with Continental Sport Contact 3s, yet after that can only supply SC2s based upon the last conversation I had with the Parts Manager a few months back. cml said:

Yes, they can be a tad wayward in the wet. I had them on my MX5 too, with loads of grip and that could be quite fierce and tail happy in the wet, or when the tyres were cold and the road was cold or damp. Having had my S60 out in a downpour I found it better not to hoof it as the car was being uncharacteristically unsettled over puddles and standing water. The tyres are in dire need of a change though, they've probably got a couple of hundred miles left in them and they've lost a lot of their ability to displace water beneath them. They are tough though. On the MX5, I think their tough, stiff design was partly what made it handle the way it did. They didn't soften up and absorb bumps and troughs in the road. You'd bounce over them in a rather disquieting fashion!
