Sharing a car?

My dad lives abroad but has sold his place and plans to downside and buy something back home too. He'll most likely spend a few months (3-4) of the year back in the UK.
He's been asking if I'd fancy getting a car to share with him in theory sounds Ok, shared running costs etc. We get by at the minute easy enough with one car and my bikes at the moment, other half uses the car daily and I commute on a bike. After last winter I'd decided I'd get a car for my winter commute and preferably something that is better suited to doing motorway miles than our othher car. It just so happens that someone has offered my a car as a swap on one of my bikes so this has got me thinking, if this would be a good idea or not to share with my old man. He's likely only to be home over our summer when I'll not need the car all that much if at all.
So what's a fair split? The car will be mine as the initial £1500 investment comes from me. Half the insurance, tax, running costs, and put petrol in when you use it? he's thought about getting a little run around for when he's back but it would just sit there for most of the year.
Anyone else car share with anyone other than their immediate other?
