MoT question

For anyone in the know, is the rear washer on a hatchback part of an MoT check? The wiper works but no water comes out of the jet, pump runs so a blockage somewhere but not sure if I can get time to sort it before MoT date.. Thanks in advance TT

If its the Polo in your garage the rear washer has many joints in it,they are prone to seperating.From memory the joins are by front bulkhead in roof at rear and in the tailgate.

It's one of things that really isn't necessary, so they can't penalise you for it not working! Think of class IV vans (up to standard size transits, can't remember the weight limit): they can't see out the back, so just because you have glass at the back of your vehicle doesn't mean you have to be able to see out of it!

I was thinking along the same lines as lights, if there are spots or front fogs fitted then they must be working. But that doesn't mean that they have to be fitted on evey car.

I think that's because front facing lights are treated as safety critical, so any front light fitted to a vehicle must work, regardless of how many there are or how redundant they are.

Rubbish, they are not testable as not legally required. Only the rear fog(s) is testable.

I remembered from years ago an MoT man failed a car I had because one of the front spots wasn't working. He told me that if they are fitted they must be working. Maybe he was wrong or things have changed, at least now i know different.

Ahh, I see. Well that was me being stupid then, I was thinking it meant my actual garage which only houses one car, the tiv. The Polo and Clio live on the street and driveway.
The car in question is a Mondeo TDCI my son has just bought yesterday and going back to Surrey in it today
