Disposing of car fluids

I'm doing some work on the Caterham, oil / coolant etc - obviously I'm not going to pour it down a drain, I'm not an idiot!

I presume that I just take the used fluids to the tip and they will have the facilities to dispose of responsibly? Do they charge for this service?

Maybe drop by the local garage to you, offer them a fiver to tip it in their containers?

Most tips have a used oil tank, not sure about coolant. Both my local tips do not charge for dumping oil.

Tips will have an oil tank to pour it into for free (at least in Leicestershire anyway)

I just put all my waste fluids in one 25l container and when its full just take it down the tip.I wouldnt worry about separating them,a bit of coolant in with the oil is hardly going to kill the planet!

Yep. It'll be free because such is the environmental damage caused by not disposing of it properly, the last thing local authorities want is for you to be dissuaded by having to pay!

Coolant I would expect can be disposed of similarly, ask at the local tip? I would probably put it in the same container.

Coolant apparently goes down the loo! Not a drain but the loo, I read this somewhere & it is correct it seems.
Oil I batch them up & drop them off at the tip where ours has facilities.

I always took the oil out of the caterham and used it in the wifes car.

Its not like i comes out of a well maintained 7 dirty

My local recycling centre tip will only take waste oil

No antifreeze or brake fluid

Actaully they did take the antifreeze last time but what they did with it I wasn't impressed...

It used to say this on the antifreeze bottle - it stressed toilet not drain. However the new bottle I just bought has changed it to 'dispose of properly'.

I put it down the loo.

I collect all my oil and gibve to who ever i know with a waist oil burner, at the mo my local classic car resto garage, they burn 50L a day in the winter so have a LAEGE tank to store it and it's allways helpfull to get in with a decent garage for tips and hints favours ect.

Just because it's clean doesn't mean it's still doing a good job of being oil.
