Fuel comsumption confusion

I've found myself very confused this morning after doing my weekly fill up. Every Monday its time to brim the tank. I'm in the routine of resetting my trip computer every Monday when I fill up. This allows me to quickly work out my calculated MPG (sad I know) but I do this each and every week. I usually get 50mpg of there abouts, which I am happy with as the combined cycle is 46mpg.

Since last Monday I've been driving at around 90-95 consistantly on the motorway to work (as apposed to the usual 65-70) and I found myself in a awesome four car hoon on Friday night. The hoon was about 100 miles where I spent the majority of my driving time either on full throttle to redline/hard braking as the other three cars were a Golf 1.8t, Audi S3 and a Astra Van with a c20xe. (Had to go in early as all sorts of warning lights were flashing (inc handbrake) and the smell of burning oil was getting overwhelming)

Now, the fuel pump clicked off at 31.7 litres this morning (6.96 gallons) and my trip was at 385 miles. So I achieved a calculated 55mpg...

I was expecting 40 from the driving style, how the fking hell can the car improve on mpg from being driven like its stolen?!

This obviously doesn't make any kind of logical sense and this car can't defy the laws of physics.
So, I'm going to drive the car like its stolen for the next week and see what happens!

Have any of you guys had a similar experiance?

I did know the engine name it was a typo!

You're checking mpg over 7 gallons and expecting to get an accurate result? Could easily be a 10% error, or even more.

What car was it?

& what's a Z20xe? Has your mate been making up engine codes?

Maybe your consistently saintly driving has let everything get bunged up with crap and giving the thing a damn good ragging actually has made it more economical

fuel pump clicked off early, is my guess. I reckon you don't have a full tank.
Need to keep it up for the next couple of weeks to get a better idea.

Z infront = Current engines that meet Euro 4 regs. Y = Euro 3. X = Euro 2. C = Euro 1. Engines without a prefix were made before euro - standard emission regs came in.

Actually Danny is correct. There is no z20xe, the only z20 types are the let ler leh lel net etc.

Yup, to my knowledge the only Z20's are 2.0 Turbos

I dont see the problem with naming the speed on the forum? Who is to say he is making it up? where did he do this speed? What day?
