Rallying - Spectating

I'm very new to rallying, watched a fair bit of stty wrc coverage on tv, but never taken much interest. Missed group b due to my mum bearing me too late, although I think I've seen every clip on youtube related to that era, my idea of automotive perfection! But I watched the 'forest rally stage' at Goodwood yesterday with mrs smelly and loved it. We would like to see some more (although ideally classic/historic stuff rather than the bland appearing newer stuff)

But where can I see events? I'm in south london, I guess there's not much locally! And what happens when you get somewhere, just rock up, find a spot and open the beer? Stupidest question alert, is an off road type vehicle required to get access to stages?

I'll help on this.

Parking is generally on the forrest tracks going up to the stages, sometimes they have a designated parking area.

You don't need a 4 x 4 to get there, but expect a long walk to get to a good spot.

You can usually just walk along the edge of the stage or through to trees to get a good spot, then as you say, sit back and relax with a beer. Or Bovril, Bovril usually takes preference as it's usually bloody freezing.

If you from then want to get more active in rallying, find out who your nearest motor club is and pop along to a club evening.

Long walk no issue, don't like bovril however. Perhaps I'll carry some hot water to make some coffee.

Sevenoaks! Unfortunately, once I've finished the capri, the bike(s), my next (un)planned project, and had a shower, I'll be too old to compete. But I really want to.

Shouldn't have said no modern cars in first post, that's not true, I just prefer older cars mostly. But I like the noise from the non turbo'd cars, super 2000 I think the class is called?

Google tells me that the welsh rally is in November, in Wales. Can't find many more relevant websites.
