Urgent: car not recognised on vehicle check

Hi guys,

I'm going to view a Beetle tonight that's not been on the road in 25 years. None of the car checks I've tried (including DVLA vehicle enquiry) recognise the registration. Is this because its not been on the road in so long or is there something more sinister going on here?

The number plate has probably been taken back by the DVLA, as there was something my dad had to do a good few years back to keep his age-related plates for his 50's & 60's motorbikes that were being restored.

I guess you'll just have to apply for a new registration from the DVLA.

It looks like the registration has been taken back from the DVLA due to the car effectively being missing for 25 years. I went and viewed it and left a deposit.

However, the seller can't find the logbook for the car either. Is there a way for me to apply for a new logbook and for a registration number to be assigned back to the car?

I've seen the V62 form where you can pay £25 for a new logbook. Can this be done if the requested logbook is in a different name to the last registered keeper?

I'll have a full receipt for the car from the seller and they are happy to help in any way needed to get it registered again. I've no reason to suspect foul play here, it's just that the car has been sat in a garage for a quarter of a century and the paperwork was being stored in the seller's mum's house (along with the car) who has now sadly passed away.

No logbook either? Sounds a tad hooky to me, how much at stake if the proverbial hits the air displacement tool?
