So there it is, the final words from your prospective buyer.

He's been on the phone for 20 minutes, asking about the car.

He's been telling you about his past cars.

He's telling you how much he's always wanted one like the one you have for sale.

He's keen.

He's sold his car.

He's got money burning a hole in his pocket.

His wife likes the car too, he showed her the pics (but probly lied about MPG and noise!)

He's had an insurance quote.

He'll call tomorrow to make final arangements to come view.

Would you prefer cash or bank draft he asks.

He's mentioned a price, bit of a haggle but its ok.

Then he says, the bell of death tolls, its all over, you know he's not coming....

"I'm not the kind of guy to mess you about"

Why do they do that? I know as soon as I hear those fateful words I dont have a buyer.

I sold cars for a living for 6 years and not once did a person buy the car after that statement!

Unlucky mate.

It's like any self-proclamation. "I'm a really funny guy". No.

Yep, it's a dead cert. "I'm definately interested" is another. My brain became adept at translating this straight into the phrase "I'll never see or speak to you ever again. Goodbye".

Totally agree, but you will always have people like this moaning after the event....

Why would someone even bother saying it?? It's as if it has crossed their mind that they are messing you around.

That is unlucky, he's definitely the kind of guy to mess you around.

It's like the phrase "I'm not a racist but......."

Yep, because the thought is lurking in the back of their mind - and somehow makes its way to their mouth via the guilty conscience processing unit.

So it's still okay to come and pick up the car as agreed or not. Or are you the kind of guy to mess me about.

What I hate are the people that won't phone but either text or email, and ask about 10000000000 questions, that they would know the answer to if they came and actually VIEWED the car.

What I've found are those that ask millions of questions generally don't buy the car.

Here is a classic selling a clio dci65 03 plate needs a bit of work now short mot/ tax £30 a year only. I only want £950 for the car.
I had some guy get in touch about the car, Would you be interested in £1000 and he wants me to put another years MOT on the car as well.

confused I don't get it, are you saying it will hugely fail the MOT hence the price?

It's not an unreasonable position to offer enough money to cover the MOT if you'll put it through?

Good test from a buyer as to how much/little liability they are buying...

If I were interested (and assuming the right sensible) I'd have said "I'll give you the asking price if you MOT it for me", so you're £50 up as far as I can see.

If it's been stated the car needs some work (it's cheap at that price anyway) then no, It's not reasonable is it.
