How are Kwik Fit with tyres?
Discussion
Need a couple of new tyres for the daily driver. Although only a fwd hatchback with a mighty 85bhp, it has quite a specific size tyre (215/ 45/ r16) and it seems the cheapest available in that spec are Pirelli P7s. Most places want £100+ per corner fitted, but Kwik Fit undercut everyone else at £85 per corner, so I'm mostly likely going to buy from there.
Are Kwik Fit trust worthy enough with tyres? Always reading/ hearing bad reports about them for other stuff, but surely changing a set of tyres there's not much that can go wrong? I also specifically want them on the front, as the rears are fine, is this likely to be a problem? Some places seem to refuse to do this and insist the new pair goes on the rear...
Thanks!

Luck of the draw with the branch you use and the monkeys working that day but they are no worse than any other similar tyre place. I actually quite like my local one and they have been honest and helpful in the past and not caused me any problems except the odd silly quote for things like brakes.
There will be no problem with just changing the fronts if thats all you want doing. If they start trying to talk you into the rears aswell for whatever reason just say no and that you can only afford the fronts at this time.
The only thing that can really go wrong is that your wheels can get marked while changing the tyres if care is not taken or the tyre fitter is inexperienced. If you are concerned i would just mention that,if your alloys are a mess and your not really bothered then there should be nothing to worry about.
Having said that a very good mate of mine has been a branch manager for one of the major tyre fitting companys for many years now and i have seen a lot of young scrotes come and go.One lad actually sent a car out once without replacing the wheel nuts on one of the wheels and it fell off as the customer was leaving the forecourt so you would be as well to just give it the once over before you drive away!

If you want nice alloys to stay nice you might need to prompt them to use stick on weights rather than improvising with the bang on type.
As a previous poster has stated it very much depends on the branch. There are branches I will never return to (Have to use KF with the company car) and will travel further to a branch which I have found to be staffed with individuals who have at least heard of the word "quality".
I have in the past had KF send me a cheque for £20 after I got all 4 wheels on my company car re-balanced at my local tyre place after they had cocked it up on 2 visits - I complained via the fleet company who had a moan to KF head office on my behalf.
Were it me and I had the choice - I would be going somewhere else.

If my local kwik fit is anything to go by, you'll come out and find a nasty steering wheel vibration when you drive over 70mph.
For some unknown reason, they can't/don't balance the tyres.
I only use them because I have a company car, and that's where the lease company have an account. Otherwise I wouldn't.

CRAP in one word put a tyre on my wife's car back to front .
When we told them about it, and there head office they said it was not a problem.
So I said then why does it say on the front this way to fit.
There customer care sucks?. We will not go there again, we spent lot of money there as well.

Having worked the otherside of the counter for several years I find this very hard to believe, Kwik fit customer services bend over backwards to help people, even when the customer doesn't deserve it, just to try to protect the company's image. They also do a good job of making centres accountable, many of them ring through to a centre to speak to people involved after a complaint to ensure they do the right thing.Nick3point2 said:

Very helpful and very cheap as well.
Have you tried http://www.event-tyres.co.uk/ used them a couple of times and they were great.
Excellent - called in local branch on a Sunday with the sister's car (my birthday present to her were 2 new tyres as she appears to have no interest in spending £100ish on anything other than handbags!) and they pointed out a pub over the road where I could grab a quick half while they changed them.
They rang me after 15 mins saying ready for collection, but they are used to people taking their time.
The tyres were within a couple of quid of the online price and the ones I wanted to put on (priority on wet braking grip)
