What car : sub £20k, RWD, Faster than Mountune ST

So having been to goodwood on the weekend and having sat in and heard a few cars i am planning for my next one and need some motivation to start saving more.

Ideally i want something faster than my focus st mountune, 2 seats and rwd. Less then 20k would be my ideal budget and the more change the better and fuel costs no worse than the focus.

My list so far is:

Z4m preferably coupe
996 targa/coupe/cabrio
M3 CS
Cayman/boxster
911 ie 993/964 and back.

Im leaning towards the z4mc atm as warranty would be available and a nice one is circa 16k atm i am aiming to save the money to pay cash as my current car is on finance and am fed up with monthly payments although i may keep the money as savings and borrow to save.

So if anyone has any other suggestions or information on running costs ie servicing parts and insurance this would all be helpful my aim is to buy a car that depreciates less then my new car and spend the money running something better.

Not buying yet and would get a vx220 as there is no practicality.

I am aiming to drive across europe at some point and whilst i love my current car i want something more inspirational( i have two bikes and i need to rekindle my love for cars) and i think this route may be the answer.

eta, OP, for that money, I'd find something with a supercharger. You won't look back.

caterham -i have looked at but would need two cars so not sure although i like them but one car is better.

E46 CSL - are 25k for a decent one which is too much for me atm and not attainable within a year.

Tvr - in general running costs maintence and garage seem to be ideal and whilst i like doing things myself a tvr and two bikes may be too much.

E46 M3 isnt a lot faster than my current car,is probably as popular and will cost more for an older model. I also think depreciation will be similar now so no benefit to offset running costs.

Faster (much), 2 seats, rwd, less than £20k (much less depending on choice), maintenance cheap, fuel good.

Of course, the OP is probably too "sensible" to run it as an only car.

Not sure there's much difference in performance between the E46 and Z4MC, as far as I'm aware. But it should be a substantial increase, and a different experience to the Focus, which I assume is running 260bhp.

Z4MC would be my shout. It might not be the totally capable weapon as a Cayman S, but in terms of looks, sound and sheer masculinity, you can't do better

Oh and the Z4MC is nearly 200kg lighter than an E46 M3 - that'll make a fair difference.

Maybe not.... Although ideally i want something practical if i were to abandon that then a caterham or westfield would be ideal i have access to two small garages that would fit these in so it is possible.

London in a caterham or westfield would be fun but i would have three methods of transport all of which are impractical which would be silly but im not ruling it out yet....
