The best replicas of classic cars

I have had the pleasure of owning and running a number of wonderful classic cars. They are special experiences, but every once in a while they do drive one nuts! Reliability, fragility, etc all play a part in sometimes diminishing the pleasure of the experience.

The shell of the Ferrari 246 Dino up for sale online got me to thinking about the option of putting that beautiful body on a modern chassis and engine, and then complementing it with a classic interior.

Logical sequence of thought took me to wondering: who builds the best modern day replicas of classic cars?

Beacham Jaguar comes to mind, but other than that I can't think of it.

Gives want to dreams of a Miura body on a Lotus Exige chassis, etc!

Also, please don't make this a thread about what your favourite combination of modern/classic would be but rather, actual builds and perhaps even better, some user experiences?

Dino body on an elise tub and front end with a VW R32 lump and DSG please.

Some of the 911 builds from Autofarm etc are very good. '70's 911's with 993 running gear etc.

Not strictly a replica.

I'd say the finest replicas are probably the historic grand prix car replicas and the Ferrari sports racing cars. There are several firms who'll build you a shark nose Ferrari or a Mercedes W125, but you're looking at hundreds of thousands, not a couple of grand and a rusty MR2. Of course, there is a whole spectrum in between. There are some excellent GT40s and some very accurate Jaguar C-Type regulars, even in the kit car market.

The best C-Type replicas in the world are/were made by Peter Jaye.

One of his replicas was so good the world thought it was one of the missing race cars until he pointed out he made it!!

I've heard a story about a very rare classic car (nothing to do with the above) that was lent out for a collector to make a copy. Rumour has it, the car that returned to the original owner was in fact the replica!

Saw Willie Green at the pub on Tuesday evening, in a T35 replica, there was much debate about whether it was or wasn't, and it's rude to ask. Found out later it was a replica, bloody good one though, Argentinian job I think.

The Monte Carlo mc220 was a Alpine a110 on a Darrian chassis. Supposedly also produced an Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale body on the same chassis. I say chassis, but the Darrian is a monocoque.

I was taken out in one at Dunsfold during the Dad's Day Out event. It got me seriously thinking of trading in my Hawk Stratos.

Then, I came to my senses, gave myself a serious talking to and left it at that. Must have been a touch of sunstroke.
