What cheap 4x4?

Following the death of a mates old Nissan Patrol a big off roader is needed.

So <£1500
Reliable
Big - 5 people and luggage
Tow up to 1.5 tons
Decent off road capability

Any thoughts on other suitable contenders? Mainly needs to not break halfway up a mountain 100 miles from home.

I think Isuzu's are quite good and in your price range, you can get quite a good trooper or bighorn for that money. Also there's always the option of a Landy Defender or a Discovery.

Also not sure how good they are but Vauxhall Frontera's are reasonably cheap at the moment.

Mate is just off the phone with me and feeling rather pleased with himself.

1994 Landcruiser Amazon, 4.5l and over 250k on the clock. Won't tell me what he paid for it, only that it was a bargain on account of being covered in scratches/dents/obscure fungus. Also had to keep the window open on the way home as the interior smells like dead things, but he reckons it'll clean up fine

It's a cone to direct the suspension spring back to the right location, when you've used up so much travel that it's not in contact any more.

Anything with extreme articulation will have this as a problem - there are loads of ways round it, of which cones are one.
