Ancient taxis still in use

I took this photo of a taxi in Washington DC this week. I don't know exactly how old this car is, but I think it's between 1988 and 1991... so at least 20 years old, and in use as a taxi.



I saw it around town a couple of times in the week I was there so it's not a movie prop or anything like that.

In Hamburg this year I was in a pre-1989 Mercedes 200D (it was a pre-facelift W124 with lovely red vinyl seats).

Anyone got any more examples of cars still in use that should have been retired at the same time as bricklike mobiles and shoulder pads?

Some of the taxis I saw in Buenos Aries would make those look showroom fresh. No photos unfortunately.

There's a Vauxhall Cavalier taxi that still does the rounds up here; looks pretty mint too

So is it the boat that's the taxi? The other picture is a car sure enough but it's not that old really by the looks of it!

If the boat is a taxi the people on it are typical customers then I'm off to get a new job!

Some London taxis are getting on a bit now, there's one around Morden on an F plate (must be '89?)

I went to Sharm El Sheikh in Egypt - every taxi on the road is a 70's/80's Peugeot 504 estate

Among all the Skoda Octavias in Bournemouth I regularly see a Peugeot 505 estate still working, over 20 years old and a rare car here now!

Try Morocco it's all 70's Eclasses, with 3 rows of seats!

In Egypt it was Peugoet 504s that seemed to be popular, they seem to last very well (though the climate must help).

They kept building them in Africa until 2006, including a factory in Egypt, so they probably were not that old.

I see it too when ever I visit Bournemouth, driven by a gent in his 50's IIRC, I'm suprised the local authorities still allow him to have the 505 licenced at that age.
20 odd years ago, Bournemouth's yellow taxis were all Citroen BXs.

There was a K reg Cavalier still being used in Fareham until a few years ago. Apparently the guy retired it and still has it as a personal car. 4-500k miles or something.
