Camera on M4 between Berkshire and A419?

Hi people,

I'm new here. Does anybody know if there are any speed cameras (other than the average speed cameras at roadworks) on the M4 between Reading and A419 (west and eastbound)?

Have seen mixed comments about it and just wondered whether there are actually any there?

Yes that whole area is a hotspot for them, usually sat on one of the bridges.

I wouldn't call it a hotspot by any means. The cameras are camera vans on bridges, between J14 (Hungerford) and J18 (Bath) - the A419 exit is J15 so you're only looking at about 12 miles tops. They don't come out at night, and there's no flash.

Westbound the camera signs start after M4 Membury services and they used to be sitting on random bridges up to Chippenham. Hungerford to Reading I've never seen camera vans but have seen speed traps set up but they have to stop you.

When you say "They don't come out at night" are they vans that are manned or left? I was driving around 1:30am last night...

You'll be fine. Plod do bimble along in unmarked 3 series though - beware.

Thanks for that, I'm always wary of cars and slow down on approach, but didn't think about anything over the gantries...
It sounds like I'm a maniac but I'm not a speed demon! I was just wanting to get home!

Indeed, I presume they were disbanded at some point. Terrible loss, obviously.
