which cars are/aren't better with what DCT?
Discussion
and modern tech generally.
I'll give my opinion.
Cheap econobox = manual as any type of auto at this cost won't be good enough. Plus there's a lot of fun to be had hustling something decidedly low tech.
Sports car=manual, N/A, as we all know.
Hot hatch=genuinely don't know? both appeal. Generally the paddleshifts put me off though, it always gives the impression of changing tracks on a cheap chinese MP3 player to me. Doesn't help that the changes are too smooth, good for traffic but if you're shifting yourself I want some punch.
Supercar=should always have the best tech available, so we can decide what we want in cheaper stuff when it trickles down.
Luxury GT = anything as long as it's auto, and good.
M3 size fast coupe = manual for an M3, but for a GT-R anything goes, it's more a cheap supercar in my mind.
M5 size supersaloon = the one place where I'd prefer DCT even for hard driving.
MPV = auto or manual, but if DCT please don't give it sporty pretentions with paddleshift.
SUV's and S-Class size = who cares.
Ok so in summary I don't really like smooth shifting when you're going for it although it's great in auto mode.
