Jaaaaaag dealer switches to RR/McLaren- Recession, eh?

Visiting the aged parents in Solihull, West Midlands, I drove past the mahoosive local Porsche dealership, and later noticed that a Jaaaaaaaaaaag dealer has turned into a place selling Rolllers and McLaren F1s. For some people, it seems, things are always up.

I think the jag dealership in Shirley shut down at least a year ago?

This was the one in Hockley Heath. It has been reborn, presumably under different ownership, as a purveyor of oligarch bling. Birminghamski on the Volga.

The old Jaguar showroom was owned by Rybrook Holdings based in Leamington Spa, which kept the site and had it demolished to make way for the new McLaren / Rolls-Royce showroom. It officially opened last week.

The Jaguar dealership Stratstone in Stratford Road (yes both Rybrook site and that are on the same road! Abeit five miles or so apart) is owned by Pendragon.

I am not sure which Porsche site in Solihull you referred to but if it is the Four Ashes Road site, then did you know Sytner is building a brand new showroom in Highlands Road, very near to Graypaul Ferrari and Maserati? The framework has been erected and I can tell you 'blimey, that is massive!' About three to four times bigger than the current one.

Recession or not, they are well placed to take advantage of the quality car market when the economy recovers big time.

This sort of thing shows how segmented the economy can be. Whilst most of us prepare ourselves to sell our children and live on uncooked roadkill, a few agonise over whether the cupholders should be plated in gold or encrusted with diamonds. When I lived on the Pentonville Road near the Angel, the nose to tail Maserati traffic jam en route to the City each morning was something to see, and those were just the office cleaners.

I also went past this on Saturday for the first time, stopped on the way back to have a look. There's also Ferraris and Porsches on the top floor, although Hockley Heath isn't really a place where the recession has hit hard.
