Does anyone else find this practice completely unneccessary and very annoying?

If your dipped beam isn't good enough, get it rectified and if your eyesight isn't good enough then your licence should be revoked.

What makes you think there won't be an unlit obstruction just because it's a DC?

I always use full beam but dip for oncoming vehicles.

If it's dark and there are no other cars coming then why not?

This is my approach also. If I've got a better beam at my disposal then I make use of it.

Unless its a clear night and there's a bright moon.... One of lifes driving pleasures...

As long as they change to dip when there's on-coming vehicles I don't see a problem?

Had it all the way down the A14 tonight - I think people think that the central reservation stops the glare going over to the other carriageway - it doesn't. Personally I don't ever use main beam as I can see perfectly adequately without it on a dual carriageway.

It's rare that I do, but I have no objection to it as with any other road.

If I'm on a dual carriageway at night I tend to be on it when nobody else is and am therefore 'making progress' so use the main beam to give myself maximum visibility of the road ahead, although if someone is coming the other way I always dip my lights as I know how fking annoying it is to be dazzled by some mug with thier high beams on.

The ones that don't dip them again are massively annoying.

If they're not obstructing you I dont see any problem, aka if they dip when an oncoming vehicle is approaching.

I tend to use mine on clear roads and dip them again when there are cars on the opposite carraige way, I may be obstructing the vehicle infront of me and when I approach roundabouts for town turnoffs, find the reflection on the road signs bright and obstructing.

What annoys me more than those oncoming forgetting to turn theirs off are those who are behind me with their full beams on, its a lot of glare caused through reflection, but I usually turn the other setting of the middle mirror to reflect it somewhere else, just means I lose some knowledge of what exactly is behind me.

I find that a lot of cars don't think they need to dip their lights for oncoming traffic because there are 2 extra lanes between each other. Why?

It still dazzled oncoming traffic as they very soon discover when I switch to main beam myself.

Do you not have the polariser click type thing on your rear view?

Most irritating is when you overtake some slow coach and they stick the main beam on as a rebuttal. Maybe if they weren't driving at 60mph people wouldn't be whizzing past!

yikes you are a terminator AICMFP or you are one of those tits that pootle
along at 45/50 on a 70 DC

either way you are fooling yourself if you think dipped beam on a dark DC
is adequate at DC speeds.
