E46 convertibles

I'm getting a new car in a couple of weeks, been looking at 330 ci's but I also like the rag tops, does anyone know how they compare to the coupes?

Do they handle as well? Or are there scuttle shake issues?

A girl at work is selling her E46 330 rag top. I can only comment as a passenger but it didn't feel too bad from where I was sitting. Not as tight as a coupe but not bad. Unfortunately hers is a lemon and has had massive problems and big bills. She's handing it back to the finance company but I've not heard too many horror stories about the cars elsewhere. Think she was just unlucky.

I would go for the convertible E46 over the coupe (unless its an M3) because IMO they look great with the roof down and still look modern and relevant even though they were replaced over 5 years ago.

I've had my 330ci for coming up to 2 years now, and absolutely love it! I was lucky enough to get it with a hard top for the winter, thereby keeping the soft top in nice condition. If you have the storage to do this, you can get great storage bags to pop it into and hang it from the rafters in the garage. As mentioned previously, the E46 looks great with the top down, and attracts lots of positive glances.

Susan yes I would be looking to get a hard top, although I'm not sure a) I want to be recieving admiring glances and b) they would be given even if I did want them

I have just never owned a convertible and would like one

Never heard of one having major problems if it's been well looked after.
Engine is bulletproof.

Test drive several of them. The good ones drive very tightly, the bad ones feel a little loose and are very different. Never tried the SE version, but the sport is quite firmly sprung, but feel very sporty and are a good steer. Engine is very smooth and reliable (coil packs can go, but I think that applies to most cars).

If you can get one with the hard top, it is good news, otherwise Ebay £500 - £600 and a spray to match.

Options: Sat Nav, Harmon Kardon speakers, cd changer, zenons, electric folding mirrors, heated seats. Decide what is right for you, but the HK speakers are good and you get the ski hatch through load by default.
Choose wisely and you will love it.

Totally recommend 330s in general and the convertible must be the best way of listening to that engine
