New Stratos Production On Hold...For now
Pininfarina would have built it, but Ferrari says 'no'...
Plans for a limited run of the New Stratos, the 21st-century take on the classic Lancia rally car, have been put on hold after Ferrari refused Pininfarina permission to build the cars.
Pininfarina designed and built the one-off New Stratos for German businessman Michael Stoschek, but has said that they will only build more with the express permission of Ferrari.
And Ferrari has refused to consent to Pininfarina or any other Ferrari-dependent suppliers building the New Stratos.
So what next for the project? Well, the New Stratos Chaps say that 'appropriate contacts are being made at this time' to find somebody willing - and able - to build the cars and who have no dependence on Ferrari to make a living.
We hope they find someone, as no doubt do the 40-or-so prospective buyers who have 'expressed an interest' in the cars. Each of which would require either an F430 or a 360 Modena as a donor car...
Discussion
Hmm - sounds like the same story as Mr Glickenhaus' lovely P4/5 Competizione - Fezza killjoys trying to block people from making derivatives that are better to behold than most if not all of their official production models with a strict policy of unique models only. The only things I like about Ferrari as it currently is are the 458 racing car and that they stopped team-order Horner from winning another race at the weekend.
I have been a Ferrari fan since I was a youth, but these consistent showings of playground one-upmanship are petty and childish. Unless somebody can give me a good, non-financial reason why they've blocked this (based on a now defunct chassis?) I can be considered officially disillusioned.

I understand they are trying to preserve and maintain the brand but they are coming off like bullies and if anything these would have to help Ferrari as they require a 458 donor car so I don't get it and they are priced way way more
: (from: http://www.pistonheads.com/news/default.asp?storyI... ) The New Stratos was engineered almost from scratch by Pininfarina; even though it uses the engine, chassis and drivetrain from a Ferrari F430 Scuderia, both chassis and engine have been significantly modified. And from todays story: ......Each of which would require either an F430 or a 360 Modena as a donor car...
At the end of the day the people involved in making this car knew what the deal was with Ferrari and agreed to that deal. Now Ferrari are enforcing the deal made, everybody is crying: "It's not fair!", and: "Ferrari are just bullies!", as if the deal was a secret that no one knew about!. If they didn't like the deal ,they shouldn't have made it!
Surely it would be doing Ferrari a favour, the name would be linked with the new Lancia (as Ferrari and Lancia have been linked anyway for decades), the brand would have a nice derivative and a load of rubbish 430s etc will be made good again...
Come on someone, get your act together, get your workforce inspired and make this beautiful car.
