Help me find a tool.

So the other day I saw a mechanic fix a cross thread on a wiper stalk with a thread die. But the die itself was just a 13mm nut with the die inside it.

So all he had to do was line it up and screw it down the thread. I never got a chance to ask him for the kits name it was from but it is ideal for fixing threads on hard to access places and would be a great thing to have.

as you said it was probably an 8mm nut (13mm spanner size) just wound on the thread to recut it

Inside the thread of the nut that was wound down had a actually die for cutting. We had tried to re wind a nut on but the top thread had been burred off. He had a set with different diameter in the middle to.

They are called die-nuts as has been pointed out above.
They save you faffing about with the tool to turn a die, also handy in tight spaces.

The only one I know is Snap-On. I'd be of the opinion Machine Mart or similar would do them?
