In todays Autocar (13/7/11) a very well balanced review of the new Alpina B5 BiTurbo Tourer.

Bascially Alpina moves the BMW along enough so it is now a genuine competitor to Jaguar

Occasionally they also go a little barmy and build cars without an equivalent base BMW. The B8 4.6 springs to mind.

I always thought that Alpinas generally got quite good reviews? They certainly make more sense to me than M-cars for the use that most high spec BMWs get put most of the time (ie pounding motorways or sitting in traffic in town).

It has to be said though, the front end of the current 5-series based Alpina (posted above) looks awful.

I'm reasonably confident the E60 B5S is/would be just about the finest (in multiple ways,) high performance, luxury, mid size saloon for 95% of road travel.

I know its predecessor was remarkable.

The disdain of one or two posters is based on sheer ignorance, nothing more.

Is your going to take the pi** out of an Alpina, do a little research first ie. Drive or own one first.

In my opinion M-cars are chavved up, expensive for what they are and the first choice for the 'bradford set', which is why I would never own one
