Going out for a drive with the traffic Police.....

Something I found out today. Any member of the public can go out with the Traffic Police on thei rounds just by asking.
All you have to do is make an appointment with them, sign a disclaimer/waiver about injury and the like and they'll take you out in the car with them. Day or night, it's your choice.
Sounds like an interesting way to waste a few hours on a weekeday evening, so I think I'll be taking them up on that and see what happens first hand.

When I lived in Italy I and my passenger on a motorbike were (wrongly) stopped at gunpoint by a plain clothes cop in an unmarked car. The Cop then called for backup and we were 'escorted' to the Police station - me riding with marked car in front and unmarked behind in a high-speed cross town blast at night with sirens & lights on, through red lights the lot - which was an experience to say the least.
Although the first few minutes when pulled over by a bloke pointing a gun in my face was a bit scary.

We regularly take IAM out. I've also taken out other Mop's who ask.
I think it's something that should be positively encouraged. Even just normal response as it will be quite an eye opener as to what happens. How the days are filled and an insight into how some very decent people act towards police when stopped. It also does officers good to speak to non offenders and helps remind them that the vast majority of people are nothing like those we deal with all the time.
