What Car for £3K ??

Hi All,

I have recently purchased a second property and this seems to be where all my money is going at the moment. I also have a new job which has increased my travelling. I want to get rid of my Honda Civic Jordan which I have had for the last 3 years and if I am realistic I am only going to get £3500 top end for it. I want to get a car that doesn't stand out as much as my civic does, something that is cheaper to run but also just as quick if not quicker. I'm looking for something that will fit into every situation, so for instance it looks good when your sat talking to your mates, it fits in with the office job and it doesn't look to out of place when you take a bird to a nice resturant.

Catch is I don't really want to spend more than £3k, but could probably stretch to £4K for the right car.

Any Suggestions????

Astra H SRI 1.9 CDTi 2005ish, economical, reliable, quiet, 150bhp, can be remapped for more, common, bit boring but a lot of car for £4k imo.

Fuel costs will affect my desicion but i'm only doing around 60 miles a day so its not a huge amount. I'm 23 with 5 years no claims so insurance isn't to bad on most things. If I can keep it under a £1000 a year I'm happy. Basically I've had my civic since I was 19 and I've grown out of that image now. I fancy something just as quick but looks a little more respectful.

30mpg should be normal on a 60mile commute or £12.27 versus 60mpg £6.14

To service and maintain it's going to cost more though. I think we would all like a good looking, quick, low maintenance , economical car
that fits into all situations for 3-4K but it's not going to happen.
