Some people!!! Grrrr....sold a car....buyer moaning

Well on the 3rd of this month i sold my little 306 (the star of another thread!)

Anyway i sold it on the 'bay and the buyer dutifully came and collected (didn't view before bidding...)

They came and looked at the car but didn't test drive it....didn't lift the bonnet or even start the engine!!! Anyway they happily paid and left happy bunnies, a short while later they left me positive feedback and i thought it was a textbook happy deal for everybody....

So this afternoon i get a message on ebay saying that the steering felt funny and their mechanic says a ball joint is worn and has been for a while.....riggggght. No they have actually asked me to do anything but just left the message with a fe "????" as if it is my duty to do something.

Now i'm a little bumused and annoyed....it was a private sale and they didn't even go for a drive FFS!!! as for the steering nothing came up in the MOT which was done shortly before i sold it.

I haven't replied to the message and not sure what to do?

I was thinking a polite reply along the lines of caveat emptor...private sale...should have taken it for a drive...errr...it's a 12 year old car for pennies (relatively)

The fact they didn't start the engine let alone go for a drive really winds me up!!! I mean WTF???

The listing was as honest as i could make it, i made it clear a wanted the buyer to satisfy themselves with the car etc....grrr. I'm not a blagger and this just annoys me.

On my HTC G1 I press the menu button whilst the phone is ringing and the option pops up to blacklist the number.

I'm not running a network supplied version of Android though.

Unless you make a business out of trading cars on eBay and the negative feedback has an impact on this, forget about it and move on.
Who's to say they didn't smack a dozen potholes on the way home and knock the steering out of whack?
People should get realistic about buying a 12yr old car... and sounds like they didn't have a clue.

I would answer, sympathise and then remind them that it's a gone deal.

Something like this

'Hello Mr.Smith; good to hear from you again. I am sorry you are experiencing some problems with the car as it has been very reliable during my ownership. I suppose that's the luck of the draw when buying a 12 year old used car. Thank you for leaving me positive feedback, I really appreciate that. Now fk off and stop taking up my time you fking rasclart.'

It will cost around the same price as a tank of petrol including labour to change that ball joint. They should think themselves lucky that they bought a 12 year old car without test driving or inspecting it and that's the only problem. Tell them to fk off (or just ignore them)

Well if it's a problem that you didn't mention and you knew about it you should take some measure of corrective action. If it's a reasonable issue take care of it otherwise kindly convey your feelings in a gracious manner. When I sold my last car i told the buyer everything and naturally a week later he was complaining about tires and such and i told him no problem bring the car back and i will give you a full refund as I know you got an exceptional value and I will have no problem reselling it. He declined and that was the end of it. It all comes down to creating reasonable expectations had I told him the car was "showroom fresh" and needs nothing etc etc and priced it that way yes he would have complaint but I sold it under market value with full disclosure and it was mechanically flawless.

Click on 'phone' (the big main button at the bottom of all the screens) now click 'menu' and you will see a 'blocked callers' option..click that, you can now add them to the blocked callers list. They'll probably just ring from another number but hey ho.

Oh, and no, you have no obligation. If they wanted a perfect car they should have bought a warranted and guaranteed one. I would just ignore them TBH.
