Is it, though? Most people I know would just try to steer more if they were understeering, wheras everyone understands that you steer the way you want the car to go, and will automatically be able to countersteer (though they may not catch it correctly).

Easier to correct/less dangerous, maybe - but I'd say oversteer is more natural.

I'd tend to agree - the correction of understeer comes more naturally.

In my experience, most people's natural reaction to losing control in any way is to come suddenly off the throttle, which is rather a bad idea if you're over-steering but will have roughly the desired effect (or at least wont make things any worse) if you're under-steering.

I hated having FWD cars that would understeer when pushed on. It would annoy me. AWD with controllable understeer / oversteer was the easiest to control. Oversteer when pushing on is more likely to be expected thus totally controllable, and more fun

Oversteer is sensational fun in FWD , RWD and AWD, I seem to experience it alot in any car I drive

Or worse still, stand on the brakes.

Thing is I suspect most road cars are setup for tons of understeer so whilst(sp?) frowned upon standing on the brakes isn't that bad.

My CTR (the phat FN2 admittedly) would at best go into a four wheel drift if you braked mid corner, it would only oversteer if you were going over a crest at the same time. And my Micra never understood the concept of a "braking drift" (the handbrake, on the other hand...)

For the record, I think a tiny bit of understeer makes for a more stable drive, thus faster, but oversteer is more fun

holding a state of steady oversteer is the most glorious feeling ever. for most enthusiastic drivers of rwd cars, being able to sling it sideways out of a corner is the dream.

Understeer cannot compare at all.

If you were on a track, with disposable rear tyres, give me a front engined, rear wheel drive coupe over anything else going. When done right, you'll never have so much fun.
