VW Golf Mk3 GTI Gearbox

Hi guys, anyone know how to top-up the gearbox of a Golf mk3 GTI? Just had a replacement gearbox delivered (Ebay)and some of the oil has leaked out.

Any ideas?

Hello,

There is a 17mm nut on the gearbox which you remove to fill the box with fluid. IF you look at the gearbox end with the green cap on it and look to the right it is there. YOu are best off draining the entire box and refilling, the capacity is 2L.
I tend to use a syringe to make sure the fluid goes in the hole and not all over the box (terrible inuendo)

as above if its a 8v ...or throught the speedo or reverse switch hole

if its a 16v the filler is on the front facing the rad area, again a 17mm

Thanks a lot guys, it,s an eight valve by the way, i did notice the 17mm nut but was not sure.
I'll be on to it the weekend.
