Jag X-type - Any good??

Looking to trade my 200sx and 207 for 1 all-rounder, comfortable around town and on motorway.
What are the X-types like? Reliable? I assume most will come in with the 3.0 V6 as a rec but is the 2.5 V6 any good and is it also 4wd?
Looking to spend around £2500 so will I be looking at a money-pit for that?

They are truly awful cars to be honest.
I had a 2.5 V6 for a year or so a while back. It was gutless, uneconomical, noisy, built badly & had the most uncomfortable driving postion I have ever experienced in a car.
The only goood thing was that it had 4WD, but even that had its downside, as it blunted the performance incredibly.
Avoid like the plague. Hideous things.

These cars have always struck me as a great all rounder and I've generally always been impressed with them, although when I was considered buying one the advice was generally to stay away from the AWD model because it lacked the guts and to make the most of that set up. Mondeo underpinnings meaning you've got a well sorted car overall, with nice touches of Jaguar styling. Could do worse!
Ok, and now a truly satisfied customer...! I have had 2. The first a diesel 2.0 which I didn't like, mainly because it was diesel... However, that was replaced with a 3.0 Sov. Estate which I loved. Smooth, powerful, very able car and well put together. I would advise you to avoid the early ones pre 2004 if budget allows, as after the revision, build quality was much improved. As for 2.5 vs 3.0, they are all 4WD, auto boxes can be fragile but that is luck of the draw. Check it behaves impeccably on the test drive. Mpg is not great, but neither is it horrendous. Both V6 models are around the same though the 3.0 is noticeably pokier, therefore a no brainer as far as I'm concerned.
