Diesel drop-tops

Just idle musing really.

Shirley one of the main pleasures of roofless motoring is the pleasant bellowing of the cars engine & exhaust and the smell of oil from older cars?

Just dont get or see the attraction of a drop-top with a ratting diesel engine.

Me neither.

Bloke down my street has an A4 TDi cabrio and it makes an horrific racket. Hardly ever see it with the top down.

I am normally very pro diesels, but a diesel drop top is just a step too far.

Yes, a lot of the fun I had with my MX5 was flying about with the roof down and a buzzing, high revving twin cam in front of me and a burbling exhaust behind. Replace that with a heavy, smokey old diesel lump and you've lost all the fun and all you've got left is the bad things that come with convertibles; like wind noise, heating issues, leaks, perishing roofs etc etc.

For instance, I love my Volvo, but part of it's appeal is it's ability to do great speeds with a minimal of fuss. No noise, no interference, just perfectly capable motoring in complete comfort. So why did they do covertible models? All that time spent making it so beautifully refined would just be going out of the window.

My mum has a diesel Megane Coupe Cabriolet. I think you lot are getting confused between people who want a convertible for wafting around enjoying a bit of sun and those who have one for the aural and physical thrills.

2 completely different types of people, 2 different types of car.
