Audi A8 MMI problems

I have viewed 2 Audi A8's now, one a 2003 (4.2) and the other a 2005 (3.0)
The 4.2, MMI screen didn't pop up, and when you pressed one of the buttons (e.g Nav) the screen openned fine, but nothing came on screen.
The 3.0, MMI struggled tp open but screen worked.
How common a problem are these.
Needles to say, i bought neither car.
