I'm looking to save a few pennies, as being a student and trying to run my car isn't going too well. I'm really in two minds what to do here. I've sat down and done the sums and swapping my car in for a (already in the family) MY07 Peugeot 307 seems to make lots of sense.



Talk me out of it? I know I can't really afford to run the Lexus, and would save a packet on insurance / tax / fuel, but, but but....

Not really, I enjoy the car because it's comfy, goes well, and the handling's not too bad. The 307 is none of that!

As I said I would be better off with the Pug, it's not necessarily that I can't afford to run the Lexus.

I hate driving those sorts of cars like the one you've mentioned as an alternative. A car has to have some passion for me.

Sell the lexus and buy something which is cheaper to insure, run, tax, etc, etc... but use the money to buy something which has a bit of soul as a replacement.

I would even prefer an original MINI to the likes of that Peugeot thing you mentioned.

You would (in my opinion) be stupid to trade it in and should sell it privately if you cant afford to run it/would like to save some cash running a cheaper car.

So what would be something I should look at? (no MINIs thank you - just don't get on with them).

I'm thinking maybe a 3 series? I want something with some comfort left, I don't think I could do with a small car as a daily.

Get down the local car place and get something rubbish and cheap like a student should have! Certainly don't waste money on a depreciating rubbish car like a 307.

When you get a job and can afford a car it will be miles better than it would be if you keep wasting money at the moment.

The lexus has "soul" it's right at the end of the spectrum in car terms. Something nippy like a Mini is right out there but closer to the center
than a lexus.

Make the most of being a student, wouldn't you rather have the cash to go out with your mates than being kept poor by a car? Get something dirt cheap to run until you've finished uni and can afford something nice again, there's plenty of time down the line to have a nice car.

Because that would be duller than dishwater? I don't want to spend 12 hours on my feet with no lunchbreak to go home and have to sit in a poxy small stbox!

TBH, not really. I go out a couple of times a week and that's it. It would be nice to have a bit more disposable though. Choices.
