No Claims - Expiry?

Long time lurker here...I can't find a more relevant forum, mods please move if appropriate.

So I used to live in the sticks and built up quite a handy no claims bonus. I then moved to London and decided having a car was silly, so sold out. I'm now back in the sticks and need a car - is my no claims bonus still valid? I had about 4 years in the bag in 2009, insured through Elephant. It seems pretty much every car I look at carries a premium north of a grand with no no claims, a clean license since which i've held since I was a PFY and living in god's back garden. Is this sensible? Cars i've looked at include an X5, S2000, Z4...

2 years is the general maximum. some are less than that, but check the T&C's of the insurance company.

I didn't drive for 2 years and luckily insured another car before the 2 years expired, just to keep them valid.

They expire after 2 years, pretty much industry standard however most can be flexible and may accept a 3 year gap depending on the risk.

Would have thought normally it expires after 2 years, but some insurance companies will honour it after that?
