Change private plate over

Afternoon all,

We have just picked up a new (to us) car and need to move the personal plate onto it from the old car.

The DVLA site says we can send off the old V5 and the new green slip and it will take a few weeks. Someone I have spoken to thinks it can be done same day at the local DVLA office - which happens to be down the road.

Has anyone done it this way before?

DVLA office used to do it the same day but not any more. The documents need to be sent away, unfortunately

Yes, if you have all the paperwork (i.e. V5C, MOT certs etc.) for both vehicles, you can get it done at a DVLA office. They print out a new MOT cert and so forth there and then.

Downside: DVLA offices are a heady combination of Job Centre, Dole Office and Argos.

ihave done the local DVLA place a couple of time

think I was there about an hour, got everything swapped, tax disk, MOT etc, then they sent off V5 and I had the fors so could get new plates made up same day

Yes you can display the plate from the same day if you go into the DVLA office in person. The paperwork will take a week or so to arrive.
