I need to get the insurance for one of my staff.

He's got points for driving without insurance few years ago, SP30 also from few years ago and also recent suspended sentence for non-drving offence.

My current insurer comes up with £4600 for a 1.4 Kangoo...

Anyone has any tips/knows companies that would give a better quote?

Don't employ people who get criminal convictions and drive without insurance?

You do realize why the insurance costs more for him don't you? he is more likely to destroy your van!

Anyway Performance Direct were pretty good when I first started driving and was getting daft quotes (due to being 18 year old male, not being convicted), and they also specialize in convicted drivers, so give them a go??

The recent suspended sentence should make NO difference to insurance as it's not a driving-related offence!?

The SP30 is nothing either - but driving without insurance is a problem, insurers always feel the need to punish that to the max.

I assume he HAS to drive? I'd certainly look into ways of avoiding that if I were you - that said, what's actually changed?

His offences are his problem - he should bear the cost and if that includes not being able to do a certain job, so be it!?

Ok, for all of you on your high horses - I didn't ask about moral outlook but thanks for your judgement not knowing all the circumstances... rolleyes

Also, don't you see the flaw in the system? Somebody drives without insurance, gets caught, what does the system do? Makes it much more difficult to get the insurance making it even more likely for the person to drive without one again...

I felt it prudent to point out my moral objections, there are absolutely NO excuses for driving without insurance, if this chap just had an SP30 then there would be no issues! It's people driving with no insurance that is increasing my premiums, that costs me quite a bit of cash!

The reason the system "punishes" them as you put it is simple, they have already shown a total disregard for driving regulations, if they are willing to drive without insurance then they may be willing to drive without an MOT, with bald tyres, with a cracked windscreen, while talking on a phone etc etc etc.

Anyway, I hope that my suggestion does help, and that this chap has got his act together! Also note please that my moral opinion came with a suggestion to help out!

The flaw of the system here is that someone's else's "mistake" is costing you money - the only real solution is to decline to offer him that particular job because he's not suitable for it (he costs you a lot more than someone else doing the same job) - well, that or dock his wages for the difference in cost smile

It's not the insurance companies fault you want to employ a high-risk driver is it - someone who's been caught driving without insurance is not really different to someone who's caught speeding or driving dangerously - they chose to ignore the rules for a reason and there's a price to pay.

What would you suggest we do instead? If we don't penalise someone for evading the system, why will they stop evading it?

Should we use Stocks? Flogging?? smile
