As title, first week in August - aside from vineyards, any recommendations for places to visit, and also to stay (not too pricey), and any hire car companies better than others (from the airport)?

Dune du Pyla, I think it's called at Arcachon, Blaye, Saint Emillion etc, places to visit. Aqua land if you fancy some juvenile, water-based fun, I think you can even hire a jet-ski to explore the estuary.
