An impossible what car?

Is there a car that offers Range Rover levels of luxury combined with increased sound insulation at speed. The problem starts at about 90mph then keeps increasing, by the time you are at 130mph the wind noise is too intrusive.

Any ideas?

If you're on a private road doing 130mph why would you worry too much about sound levels? Brakes and a solid engine should be top of the list.

Wasn't the Phaeton designed to travel at over 600mph all day, or something.

It already has the acoustic glass, unfortunately the shape is not the most aerodynamic.

As to why, well we use it as a GT car on our holidays(driving up to 1000 miles a day). When driving at speed the noise can be too much, thus causing me to back off a bit.

We cant think of any other car that is more suitable to our needs, but thought you lot might.

A slippery saloon will slice through the air better than a boxy 4x4.

Unless you need the 4wd / ground clearance, I'd suggest an S Class Merc.

We found the Cayenne Turbo quite impressive, but it was certainly not as comfy/luxurious as the RR.

As for the X6, we both find the visual assault on our senses too much.

I think any big saloon will have half as much air to push out of the way as a RR.
So alphabetically A6/A8---->Volvo S80, and everything bargetastic in between.

Would certainly do the 130+ in comfort and quiet you are after but perhaps the overall "quality" of the cabin is not in RR class?

What about an MX-5? You can leave the kids at home, and it's got enough room to take stuff for a weekend away (or longer depending what you're doing for the trip, as well as if you pack well). You can also get the top down and listen to the lovely engine sound, so wouldn't have to worry about wind noise. Also depending on the spec you can get leather seats, so that's the luxury side covered.
